Tesla said at its Semi event last night that it officially began volume production of its electric truck with the opening of its new Nevada factory, though the company had already said back in April that it had achieved volume production. Be that as it may, CEO Elon Musk, who appeared in a pre-recorded video , promised that self-driving features for the big rig were coming "in the very near future." Tesla is trying to turn the long-delayed truck, first unveiled in 2017, into real sales and a new business vertical. The event comes at a busy time for Tesla, sandwiched between the Cybercab robotaxi launch earlier this month and the Roadster reveal on October 1st.
