Some may recall that in January 2025, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicted a long wait, up to 30 years, for "very useful" quantum computers. That comment roiled quantum stocks across the board, with IonQ, Inc. (NYSE: IONQ ) shares plunging about 40% in their worst single-day drop. To be fair, commercially useful, fault-tolerant, quantum computers, have not arrived yet. But less than two years later, IonQ has secured a prominent role in Nvidia's push to develop useful hybrid quantum-classical systems. IonQ said on September 23 that its Superion 256 will become the first on-premise quantum processor deployed at Nvidia's Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC).
